Kerala Flood Relief Efforts

In the wake of the devastating floods that struck Kerala, countless lives were disrupted as farmlands were destroyed, homes were submerged, and personal belongings were washed away overnight. The overwhelming impact forced many to restart their lives from scratch, facing the daunting task of rebuilding without resources. Remote areas in high-range districts like Wayanad were particularly hard-hit, with extensive damage leaving communities in dire need of immediate assistance.

Collective Efforts and Immediate Relief

Powered by the collective efforts of well-wishers and volunteers, #TeamUthishta mobilized swiftly to provide essential relief to the flood victims. Recognizing the urgent need for sanitation, the team sent 6.5 tons of cleaning materials, including bleaching powder and cleaning lotions, to aid in cleaning and disinfecting affected areas. To help restore a sense of normalcy and dignity, they also distributed around 5,000 new garments to those who had lost their possessions.

Understanding that many families lost all household items, Uthishta initiated a Kitchen Kit Distribution program. Volunteers visited Wayanad, conducted surveys of individual households, and identified those most in need. They personally delivered Uthishta's Kitchen Sets, which included stainless steel utensils, plates, knives, and other essentials sufficient for a small family to resume daily living. This initiative provided not just material support but also emotional relief, helping families take the first steps toward rebuilding their lives.

Looking beyond immediate relief, Uthishta launched Santhwanam, a rehabilitation project aimed at providing long-term support. Ten beneficiaries from the Alappuzha district were selected to receive items worth around four lakh rupees to restore their livelihoods affected by the floods. By assisting in re-establishing their means of income, Uthishta helped these individuals move toward self-sufficiency and stability.

With unwavering dedication, #TeamUthishta continued their efforts by sending additional trucks loaded with flood relief materials to Wayanad and other affected regions. Recognizing that restarting lives requires assistance in various forms and dimensions, Uthishta is planning further activities to support society in getting back on its feet.

A Legacy of Support

Uthishta has been at the forefront of providing crucial support during multiple disasters, including the 2018 Kerala floods, the Chennai floods, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Wayanad landslides.

Wayanad, a picturesque district in Kerala, has faced devastating landslides in recent years due to heavy monsoon rains.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic presented unprecedented challenges globally, affecting healthcare systems, economies, and daily life.

Uthishta actively participated in relief efforts during the devastating 2018 Kerala floods.

In December 2015, Chennai faced one of the most devastating floods in its history due to unprecedented heavy rainfall.

Our Inspiration

Swami Vivekananda

"In this world always take the position of the giver. Give everything and look for no returns. Give love, give help, give service, give any little thing you can, but keep out barter. Make no conditions and none will be imposed. Let us give out of our own bounty, just as God gives to us.”
